Ayat e Karima, is verse 87 in Surah Al-Anbiya, in the Holy Quran. It is also called the “Verse of Honor.”Muslims believe that it is a short yet utmost powerful dua. Allah showers His blessings and mercy upon those who recite this prayer in their difficulties.
وَ ذَا النُّوۡنِ اِذ ذَّهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ اَنۡ لَّنۡ نَّـقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ فَنَادٰى فِىۡ الظُّلُمٰتِ اَنۡ لَّاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنۡتَ سُبۡحٰنَكَ ۖ اِنِّىۡ كُنۡتُ مِنَ الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ ۖۚ ﴿۸۷﴾
Urdu translation: اور ذوالنون (کو یاد کرو) جب وہ (اپنی قوم سے ناراض ہو کر) غصے کی حالت میں چل دیئے اور خیال کیا کہ ہم ان پر قابو نہیں پاسکیں گے۔ آخر اندھیرے میں (خدا کو) پکارنے لگے کہ تیرے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ تو پاک ہے (اور) بےشک میں قصوروار ہوں ﴿۸۷﴾
Translation: And (mention) Dhu’n-Nun, when he went off angrily, deemed that We had no power over him. He cried out in the darkness, saying: There is no Allah save Thee. You are Glorified, and indeed I have been a wrongdoer. ﴾87﴿
Matter of Descent of Ayat e Kareema
In the Quran, this ayat e kareema references Hazrat Younas (AS). When the people of Hazrat Younas (AS) don’t listen to Him and keep following the wrong path, He gets disappointed. Even after a lot of effort, they don’t stop their wrongdoings. He (AS) got furious due to their behavior towards Allah’s path and decided to punish them. Hazrat Younas (AS) left them on their own but without the permission of Allah (SAWT). Allah (SAWT) dislikes His action and sends a whale fish, who swallows Hazrat Younas (AS). He (AS) stayed for 40 days in the stomach of a whale. In the belly of fish, He recited this prayer continuously for forgiveness and repentance. After forty days, Allah (SAWT) accepted His prayer and ordered the whale to exteriorize Him.
Ayat e Karima Importance
Ayat e Karima is one of the Holy Quran’s crucial and highly recited verses. However, Hazrat younas (AS) used to recite this prayer for the mercy of Allah when He was in the stomach of whale fish. This verse has many advantages. That’s why Muslims repeat ayat karima to solve their difficulties and problems. Ayat e Kareema is termed a heavy prayer. Some scholars recommend reciting this prayer with a limit. But neither Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) nor any of His Companions mention any limitation on its recitation. So, there is no obligation to the recitation of ayat e karima. Nothing is going to happen by praying beyond the limit.

Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said to His companions:
“Shall I not tell you some words which, if distress or grief befalls any of you and he offers this prayer, it will bring him joy. It is dua of Dhoo’l-Noon).” (Tirmidhi)

How to do Ayat e Karima Wazifa?
- First of all, do absolution.
- Find a quiet and clean place to sit.
- Make niyyah about your specific desires.
- Read ayat kareema in a way that completes the limit of (1,25,000) in 12 days.
- Complete this process in 12 days consistently.
- Make dua from Allah (SAWT) from the depth of the heart to fulfill desires.
- If you can’t complete this process in 12 days, invite others to recite it.
Consistency is the primary key to better effects of ayat e karima. Take your time to expect miracles overnight, but you should keep faith in Allah Almighty and wait for his mercy. It would be best if you did not hustle to get the results. Satan can distract you from your path through different misunderstandings. This may end in losing your faith in Allah (SAWT). Punctuality is necessary to get the consequences. You should not give up on it after some days and keeps reciting, which may result in habit and peace.
Hadith About Ayat e Kareema
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“the prayer that Dhul-Nun (Hazrat Yunus, AS) made in the belly of a fish. Allah will accept any Muslim who prays with these words for any purpose.” (Sunan Tirmidhi, Number of Hadith: 3505)
There is no specific limit to a recitation of ayat e karima mentioned in the Quran or Hadith but the saying of some elders. So it is optional to complete the counting. It just depends on your faith and preferences.
In another Hadees, the Prophet (PBUH) said, The supplication made by the Companion of the Fish (Prophet Yunus) in the belly of the fish was (Ayat-e-Karima). If any Muslim supplicates in these words, his supplication will be accepted or responded to. (Tirmidhi)
