Today, Muslims have only two sources for guidance, one is the Quran and the other is Ahadith. Owing to some negative-minded European People, Islam has been portrayed as a terrorist religion. However, the reality is different. Islam is an Arabic word that has been derived from the word “Salamah” which means peace. Most of the teachings of Islam are about peace, tolerance, and love. Let’s explore different verses and ahadith in which Islam teaches about peace and tolerance.

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), Mercy for All

Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) is the last prophet of Allah. In the Quran Allah says,

“He sent Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) as a mercy for the worlds.” (21:107)

So, by reading the above verse of the Quran, we come to know that Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) is the greatest blessing of Allah in all the world. Therefore, how is it possible that Islam could teach extremism and terrorism?

Compulsion in Religion?

Islam is the best religion in the world of love and tolerance. Islam doesn’t teach violence in society. However, some misguided people create agitation in society and colored their activities in the name of Islam. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran,

“There is no compulsion where religion is concerned.”

Islam teaches defense not Offense:

All the holy wars which were waged during the life of Our beloved prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) were defensive in nature. Not a single war was offensive. Moreover, Islam is against preemptive wars. Islam always teaches us to fight against the oppressor. According to the Quran “And why should not you fight in the cause of Allah and those who, being weak, are mistreated?”

Men, women, and children, whose cry is, “Our Lord, save us! of this city whose people are oppressors, and raise for us on your side the one who will protect, and raise for us on your side the one who will help you. ”

Rules in War:

Geneva convention introduced the rules of war before half-century. However, Islam introduced the rules of war 1400 years ago. Following rules have been devised which must be followed  during the war;

• Don’t cut Trees
• Don’t Kill Children
• Don’t kill old people
• Don’t destroy Temple and Church
• Don’t kill those who surrender
• Don’t kill those who ran away
• Don’t kill a woman and a sick person
• Don’t destroy the fields
• Don’t enforce anyone to accept Islam
• Be good to the War of prisoners

Islam and Women:

Islam is the best religion in the world that provides rights to women. Before the advent of Islam, live girls used to bury. However, Islam offered rights to women. Islam devised the rules about the inheritance of a woman. Moreover, Islam gives respect to a woman by declaring her as a mother, sister, and wife. Islam always advises being kind to women. Our beloved Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said,

“I command you to be kind to your women.”

Islam Provides Religious Freedom:

Islam provides religious freedom to everyone. The State, Madina, was a role model for Muslims to follow. In that first Islamic state, Muslims, Jews, and Christians used to live together. All the non-muslims were allowed to follow their religion.

Moreover, Islam makes people learn about tolerance. Tolerance means “to bear”. Tolerate the people and beliefs which are different from your beliefs.

Conclusion:

Owing to the various negative activities and propaganda, the image of Islam has been tarnished in the world. However, the world community should learn about the true teachings of Islam, so that, the menace of Islamophobia can be eradicated from the world.
